The Watson family’s story is remarkable in today’s world. Not everyone dares to have a large family, but they didn’t have a choice, as one beautiful day, Tara and Tommy welcomed four beautiful babies. In this article on edmontonka, we’ll share how the parents are coping with raising their children and how Edmontonians help one another.
The Family’s Story

In 2024, the Watson family, which consisted of three people, had a major addition. Tara and Tommy became parents to quadruplets. They already had a daughter, Emmy, so now their family has five children in total. The probability of giving birth to quadruplets is very small – one case in 67 million. In the last few years, there have only been a few cases of quadruplets born in Alberta. Tara and Tommy had two girls and two boys.
This pregnancy was different from Tara’s previous experience. Everything was much harder than when she was expecting one child. She immediately began to feel tired, was sick a lot, and had many difficult symptoms. She couldn’t manage without medical help.
Tara works as a teacher for the Edmonton Catholic School District, and Tommy is a firefighter. They are a very cheerful and loving couple, but they didn’t expect to have four beautiful babies at once. It was a very significant financial burden for the young family.
How the Family is Coping

This isn’t a story about most of the housework falling on the mother’s shoulders. Tara and Tommy are equally involved in raising the children. In addition, the family accepts help from the community.
They organized a fundraiser on “Gofundme” for raising the children. The contributions went towards covering the costs of diapers, formula, a night nanny, car seats and strollers, clothing, medical expenses, and other necessities for the family. So far, $25,525 Canadian dollars have been raised.
Friends, family, and friends of friends – everyone united to help the Watson family. In addition to the fundraiser, people also helped with home renovations before the quadruplets were born, got involved in changing 50 diapers a day, and celebrated their first birthday. The Watsons say they are raising their children with a whole “village.” People help make this parenting process a little less chaotic.
Most of those in the support group are mothers who have already gone through the experience of raising children themselves. Their main idea is to let the children be themselves right from the start.
For the Watson couple, the first year wasn’t easy, but at the same time, it was filled with various blessings and surprises. They realized that as parents, they are always forced to adapt and learn new things, but such an experience is truly life-changing.
During the babies’ first year of life, they welcomed about 100 people into their home who were happy to help. Very often, women try to be strong and handle everything on their own, sacrificing themselves. We forget that we live in a society, and asking for help is perfectly normal. Perhaps this story will remind you of that too.
About the Babies
Although the quadruplets are the closest people in the world, they are very different. Theo is the fastest crawler, Sidney loves it when books are read to her, but Kenna doesn’t. They also have very different personalities. At their first birthday party, each reacted differently to the celebration: Max cried, Theo hesitated, Kenna felt insecure, and Sidney was happy and couldn’t wait to start eating her cake. This is perfect proof that we are all different and we need to respect that fact.
Celebrating their first birthday in a big way was a method of thanking people for being so actively helpful. These people have now become part of the Watson family. This is a story about true humanity and mutual support. Even the most difficult challenges can be overcome together.
