Childhood and Youth
Catherine Allard was born on March 28, 1956, to Margaret and Charles. She grew up in Edmonton as one of six siblings. Catherine attended a French-focused school and enjoyed assisting her father, who served as a hospital physician. She likely learned about caring for others and showing compassion by following his example. In 1974, her mother passed away, leading Catherine to take on greater independence at an early age.
Working for the Public Good
When the time came to choose a career, Allard realized she wanted to pursue business. She inherited her father’s business instincts and energy—he ran a successful medical practice while developing significant holdings in broadcasting, energy, banking, and other ventures. In 1977, Cathy completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta, then started working at the family-owned North West Trust Company, which was later acquired by Canadian Western Bank. Beginning as a teller, she advanced to Vice President of Investments.
In 1981, Catherine married businessman Harold Rosen, who had once worked for her father. A year later, she moved on to the family holding company, Cathton Holdings Ltd., continuing as Vice President of Investments, earning a strong reputation as a valuable specialist in the business arena. This further secured her standing as a respected business leader thanks to her contributions on various corporate boards. Catherine remained one of her father’s most trusted advisors until his death in 1991. In 2009, she was named Chair of the Board at Cathton Investment Ltd.

Among the medical facilities receiving foundation support are the Mazankowski Alberta Heart institute and Lois Hole Hospital for Women. Catherine also actively supports innovative health research through generous personal donations to various hospitals. Under her leadership, the foundation has advanced education in Alberta and across Canada, funding a range of institutions including the University of South Africa, Newman College, Red Deer, and others.
